2014 Goat Trek Vineyard
Goat Trek Vineyard, Dry Creek Valley

about this wine
Located in the rugged hills of Dry Creek Valley between the floor and the Sonoma Coast, Goat Trek vineyard is immersed in the wilderness. Bold mountain fruit thrives at 1,200 feet above sea level. The high elevation helps the tannins fully mature, a key trait necessary for crafting a stellar Cabernet Sauvignon. For the first time ever, the 2014 vintage is a single-vineyard bottling of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Goat Trek offers the purest possible expression of site, vintage, and variety.
at the winery
After a compressed winegrowing season, Goat Trek vineyard was harvested on the first day of October under ideal conditions. Winemaking focused on structure and mouthfeel utilizing traditional Bordeaux techniques. Under temperature control, primary fermentation occurred in stainless steel with daily pumpovers for 3 weeks. Gentle basket pressing followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel enriched the wine's mid-palate, setting a strong foundation for subsequent barrel aging. A perfect balance between fruit retention and tannin development was struck after 20 months in barrel.
in the glass
A deep, dark color indicates the quality this vintage has given us. Aromas of cassis, blackberry, and black cherry are juxtaposed against hints of cedar, tobacco, and graphite. On the palate, dried fruit and dark plum are added into the mix and flow seamlessly into a structured, yet balanced mouthfeel. Well-poised acid and tannin nicely play off the ripeness and richness of the vintage giving a long, fruit-focused finish.
