Wine Creek Ranch, Dry Creek Valley
The 2016 vintage of our estate-grown Red Rhône blend is a perfectly proportioned GSM: 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre. All three varietals are grown only a couple hundred yards apart from one another on Wine Creek Ranch. This creates a synergy that is distinct to Quivira's organically farmed estate. Winemaker Hugh Chappelle's blending expertise is on full display with this GSM; the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
In 2016, a warm start to harvest rolled into a cooling period, which enabled us to harvest at the perfect moment for each component part of the GSM blend. Grenache, always the dominate varietal, was picked in four different passes between the third week in September and beginning of October. Grenache harvested earlier contributes bright red fruit and mouthwatering acid, while the Grenache picked later adds palette richness and rounder tannins.
The violet color in the glass promises complex aromas---layers of dark cherry, blue fruits, and herbal notes reveal themselves. Black raspberry and plum flavors are accented by subtle notes of cedar and graphite. A versatile blend that combines lush fruit, round texture and pleasing freshness.
