Wine Creek Ranch, Dry Creek Valley
Our GSM is a classic example of why the sum is better than the parts - Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre. The art is in the blending.
2017:Grenache is easy to spot in this wine due to all things strawberry fresh, dried, and jam. The Syrah and Mourvèdre add structure and balance. Theres a complex range of flavors from strawberry, brambleberry, dark plum, and anise to graphite, garrique, and black pepper. This is an earthy, chewy, spicy wine that brings a lot to the table with intense purity. The tannins are youthful now and will continue to develop. The 2017 GSM is tasting spectacular and will reward you with extended cellar time through 2025-2027
2018:An über intense purple color greets you leading to a delightfully fruity nose tempered with garrique. If you get a strong connection to strawberries, youre right! Thats the Grenache stating its presence. The Syrah and Mourvèdre add complexity, structure, and balance. Flavors run the gamut from blueberry, raspberry, and kirsch-soaked cherries to anise, graphite, roasted marshmallow, and subtle black pepper. Earthy, spicy, and juicy with a slight chalkiness. 2018 GSM is remarkable now and will only improve with further aging.
2019: With a ruby core that leads to a vibrant pink rim, the wine seems to want to jump out of the glass. The aromas start to fill the room right at opening with notes of strawberry compote, fresh green moss and a salinity reminiscent of the seaside in winter. On the palate there are brighter flavors of Pomegranate, fresh strawberry complimented with notes of green moss/forest floor and black pepper. The finish lingers into milk chocolate covered almonds and umami notes of a blueberry tart all wrapped up in powdery tannins.
