Anderson Ranch is in the venerable Lytton Springs corridor near our Wine Creek Ranch home estate. It rests on elevated benchland and planted in well-drained sandy soils with perfectly matched clones delivering an elegant, refined Zinfandel - our Grand Cru.
THE WINE
2017:If he had to pick a favorite child, this would be our winemakers. It is the wine that will convert you into being a Zin-lover, if you arent already. Gorgeous garnet color with dark fruit aromatics abound. Red fruit holds its own with dark fruit - cherry, pomegranate, raspberry, blackberry, and boysenberry. Bright and focused, once the wine gets more air, wispy accents of oregano, thyme, sage. Flavors echo the nose and bring in cherry cola,
milk chocolate with the subtlest hint of black pepper. Vibrant, the brisk acidity amplifies the fruit for a refreshing finish. Theres a mild wet stone minerality that excites your senses.
2018:This vintage of our Anderson Ranch Zinfandel has an immediate gravitas and sense of quality that speaks to its Grand Cru status as a top site. Opulent garnet in color, the aromatics command your attention. There is a notable sense of concentration, complexity, and breed from the first swirl of the glass. Red and dark fruit layers are complemented by spice notes, graphite,
and subtle minerality. Flavors explode with freshly crushed berries (blackberry, boysenberry, and marionberry) leading into dried fruit notes, dark chocolate, and cola in the expanding finish. Vibrant, bright natural acidity keeps everything fresh, lively, and balanced.
2019:The nose is filled with red cherries, tart raspberries, cocoa powder, nutmeg and a hint of tomato leaf. In the mouth, these elements explode, held together with powdery tannins and medium+ acidity. Mixed Italian herbs reminiscent of a fine Chianti Classico mingle with brighter red fruit. The chocolate notes move darker to a ganache topped with raspberry compote. This wine offers layers of flavors and complexity while remaining light in color and notably delicate.
