2019 Katz Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley
THE VINEYARD
The Katz Vineyard was planted in 1900 as a Mixed Black vineyard with Zinfandel the primary variety as was the fashion of the time. Over the past century, the gravelly soil has encouraged deep root systems that thrive on its terroir highlighting why Zinfandel, when planted in the right microclimate, is Californias premier heritage variety.
THE WINE
Katz flows seamlessly through the palate---acid, tannin and alcohol are all in perfect harmony. The wines final sensation shows both concentration and delicacy, where the wine is simultaneously intense and light on its feet. Traditional Katz red fruit flavors of cherry and raspberry are complemented by darker fruit tones of blackberry and plum, all in both fresh and dried versions, which add a compelling layered effect. Because of this wines almost Burgundian balance, the food pairing options are endless.
