The Vineyard

Planted in 1900, Katz Zinfandel truly captures a sense of place and ties the Quivira Collection back to Dry Creek Valley's humble beginnings. With over a century's worth of adaptation in the gravelly soil, a Zinfandel with concentration and delicacy that only comes with old vines. Katz Vineyard is planted to pre-Prohibition vines, and the wine is a classic field blend, which includes interplantings of multiple varieties. Like previous generations, Quivira lets this prolific site tell its story.

The Wine

Our 2015 Katz Vineyard Zinfandel is a stand-out by any measure. A near perfect growing season, century-old vines, low yields, and a gentle hand in the cellar have yielded one of our most compelling vintages of this wine to date. Classic Dry Creek Valley bright, fresh, yet deep, berry fruit is deftly accented by subtle baking spice and savory dried herb notes for a notably complex and intriguing nose. Round and lush at first sip, the structure builds pleasantly from the ripe, youthful tannins and brisk, terroir-driven acidity. There is a wonderful purity of flavors here that reflect the nose with only a slight nod to darker fruit characters such as Bing cherry, blackberry and plum.
