2012 Reserve Zinfandel
Dry Creek Valley
750 ml - $42.00
about this wine
The 2012 growing season gave winemakers all the perfect components to make great wines. But as he tasted through the barrels of Zinfandel in preparation for blending the Dry Creek Zinfandel, Winemaker Hugh Chappelle was struck by a few barrels that were particularly extraordinary. Those barrels were set aside, destined for the 2012 Reserve Zinfandel. About half the blend comes from three estate vineyards farmed using organic and Biodynamic practices. The result is big and bold, a Zin for lovers of Zinfandel.
at the winery
Everything fell into place in 2012. The growing season was long and steady and the fruit that arrived on the crush pad supplied all the ingredients we needed to make a stellar Zin. The fruit was hand-harvested over the course of a few weeks at different maturity levels to naturally provide acid, alcohol and flavor balance. The fruit was cold soaked for three to five days and the tanks then warmed to start the native yeast fermentations.
in the glass
Aromas of sweet blackberries are at the forefront right out of the gate giving way to flavors of black cherries complemented by notable acidity, elegant tannins and that classic Dry Creek spice. A perfect wine to partner with steak tartare or a slab of baby back ribs.
