THE VINEYARD Anderson Ranch is located on the venerable Lytton Springs corridor, one of Dry Creek Valley’s premier Zinfandel microclimates. Situated on elevated benchland, and planted in well-drained sandy soils, this vineyard delivers an elegant, refined Zinfandel. This single-vineyard wine, formerly known as Flight, honors the Anderson family with whom we have a long-term relationship and for whom we have managed all aspects of winegrowing since 1996. Naming this Zinfandel Anderson Ranch recognizes this deep relationship. THE WINE Anderson Ranch’s sandstone-derived soils are lightly colored and textured; this nurtures an aromatic-driven expression of Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Almost all of this wine was Foudre aged to allow for aroma retention and tannin development. Red and dark fruit aromas are pure and transparent, a distinctive signature from this Zinfandel bottling. The mouthfeel shows an elegance, restraint, and balanced structure that is uncommon in Zinfandel a tight-rope between the clean, pure, bold flavors, a medium-full bodied texture, and vibrant natural acidity. The aromas leads off displaying a full spectrum of high-toned red fruit from fresh, to jammy, to dried. On the palate, darker fruit characters come into play as a mélange of crushed mixed berries, joined after just a little air by more subtle accents of cocoa, black pepper, toasty oak, and musky floral notes. Fruit and spice flavors fan out on the palate accompanied by crisp acidity and finely grained youthful tannins. The finish is clean and long, never heavy, with bright lingering flavors.
